On April 26 in Aktau, Magzum Mirzagaliyev, Chairman of the Board of JSC NC KazMunayGas, took part in an international scientific-practical conference dedicated to the oil and gas future of the Mangistau region, kmg.kz reported.
Speaking at the plenary session, he spoke about the prospects of geological exploration and the company’s plans in this area.
“KMG pays special attention to the strategic goal of resource base development. In order to accelerate the growth of reserves, we have formed a diversified portfolio of projects to be implemented within the framework of exploration and additional exploration of hydrocarbons. First of all, from the nearest plans for the existing exploration projects it should be noted the offshore drilling of a prospecting well on the Abay block at a depth of 2500 meters”, – said M. Mirzagaliyev.
At the same time, the Head of KMG noted that the company also plans to start drilling two more deep wells in 2024.
“Based on the results of our regional studies, we estimate the undiscovered hydrocarbon potential at 18 billion tons of oil equivalent, where the main prospects are associated with deeper buried and technically complex projects. As part of the study of deep-seated sediments, this year KMG plans to start drilling two deep wells of 5.5 km each at the Karaton-Podsalt and Turgai-Paleozoi projects in the Atyrau and Kyzylorda regions,” he said.
In 2023, KMG initiated a project of large-scale seismic exploration in new territories – geological exploration of subsoil (GIS) of 5 areas in Aktobe, West Kazakhstan and Mangistau regions.
Within the framework of works on GIN projects last year field seismic exploration works on Zharkyn and North Ozen areas were completed. At present, data processing and interpretation are being carried out. In addition, 2D seismic survey of the Bolashak area is planned for this year.
The head of KMG also highlighted some projects aimed at maintaining hydrocarbon production in the Mangistau region, including the rehabilitation project for the Uzen and Karamandybas fields.
KMG also jointly with Lukoil started detailed design of the development of the Kalamkas-Sea-Khazar offshore project, where first oil production is planned for 2029. The realization of this project may significantly affect the performance of the oil and gas industry in the Mangistau region.
The International Scientific and Practical Conference “Oil and Gas Future of Mangistau” organized by the Kazakh Society of Petroleum Geologists is a significant event in the industry, providing an open platform to discuss geology and oil and gas field development with the participation of leading experts.
